WHAT IS METADATA?
Metadata is information stored within a file that includes data designed to help locate the file later. Metadata is added by the system, the application the file was created in, and also by people who work with that file.
The problem with metadata is not knowing what it contains, and then sharing the file with the embedded information with others.
WHY METADATA ASSISTANT?
Back in 1998, our attorney sent us a document that was showing signs of corruption. After closer inspection, we discovered that the file contained tracked changes going back many years. This information included changes made for clients based on a template or boilerplate document used throughout the firm. Soon thereafter, we created Metadata Assistant, the first metadata removal tool of its kind. The product was featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal in 2000 and today the tool is used by millions of people around the world.
